Some guy just cut you off, stuck in stop & go traffic, hitting every red light… These are just some of the stressers brought to you every day on your way to work, to a friends house, or just coming home from a long day.
Being able to relax and relieve stress while driving can be very beneficial. Below are just some different ways to relax when you’re stuck in the car.
They say music soothes the soul… so why not get involved with your favorite radio station.
There will be a day when you pull up next to that happy person just screaming away at the top of their lungs to whatever song is on the radio.
You can bet that they are having a good time, they may even catch you staring at them and throw you a smile.
If you have the time, make yourself a mix of your favorite songs… screaming and shouting to your favorite song can also help relieve some stress… everybody needs a good yell once in a while.
Stretching can help relieve some of the tension throughout your body. Stretching alone just feels good anyway, and during long commutes peoples necks and heads can begin to tense up a bit. Stretching actually releases endorphins which in turn makes you feel just a tad bit better.
Recently there have been reports and studies shown that drinking tea may help to reduce stress.
Although it can cause you to have to use the restroom, tea has been shown to reduce stress and calm the mind.
It also contains less caffeine than the same amount of coffee but also provides you with some antioxidants.
Many people tend to hold stress in their faces, whether it be in their foreheads or mouths. There are many exercises that can be done in the comfort of your car while driving that doesn’t take too much effort.
Winking your eye partially, making a fish mouth, and raising/lowering your eye brows can all be effective ways to reduce stress in your face.
Letting yourself daydream is a nice way to relieve stress.
Do you remember the days when you were studying really hard, or paying attention to something really frustrating and boring? Did you ever nod off into fantasy-land and picture random happy thoughts of flying around or just doing something extreme and innovative?
Daydreaming is a great way to eliminate your stressful environment, it also gives you the ability to be more creative and brush off daily life stressers.
Just try not to get too involved in your daydream, as you are still driving.
Doing little things to become more comfortable during the drive can help relieve stress, all of the above ways to de-stress can all be done one after another and some simultaneously. Just remember not to let things get to you.
The most hazardous thing to do is to give in to road rage. It is a lot easier to scream and shout at the person who just cut you off, but what for?
This only causes a negative environment not only for you, but for the surrounding people. Not only will you be putting your health at risk but those around you.
